Colorado: Prohibit Student Seclusion (HB24-1167)

Colorado HB 24-1167 would prohibit the use of seclusion on a student of a school district, district charter school, or institute charter school. A 2020 investigation found a wide-range of seclusion practices by schools across the state with little oversight. Furthermore, 80% of Colorado students who experienced seclusion have disabilities. Seclusion has been shown to lead to physical and psychological harm, without necessarily improving safety. Now is the time to pass HB 24-1167 and ensure all Colorado students receive full protection from this ineffective and harmful practice.
