Colorado: (HB22-1376) Supportive Learning Environments for K-12 Students

This legislation aims to provide new restrictions on restraining, handcuffing, and secluding students, set new standards for school resource officers, and require the state education department to collect additional data on many aspects of school climate. In an effort to address disproportionality in the application of punitive practices, data will be collected based on race, ethnicity, gender, family income, English learner status, and disability status. This legislation will support Colorado schools in becoming safer and more supportive learning environments, especially for Black and Brown students and students with disabilities.
