TAKE ACTION TO END THE CRIMINALIZATION OF CONCERNING BEHAVIOR IN SCHOOLS AND TO HELP KIDS GET THE HELP THEY REALLY NEED

Tennessee: An Act to amend Code Annotated, Title 36; Title 37; Title 39; Title 41 and Title 49, relative to corporal punishment.

SB 1788 / HB 1965 prohibits teachers, school principals, or school personnel from imposing corporal punishment on a child. Corporal punishment is defined as the use of physical force to inflict temporary pain as a means of discipline. This includes spanking, slapping, and paddling. There is increasing, inarguable evidence that corporal punishment is counterproductive and causes significant emotional and physical harm.
